Our Story

Salty Dog Rescue Brigade is a volunteer‑driven, non‑profit dog rescue organization based in Nayarit, Mexico. Our mission is to give abandoned, unwanted, and surrendered dogs a second chance at life through rescue, rehabilitation, and re‑homing.

Most of our pups now live at the Salty Dog Rescue Ranch in San Juan de Abajo, where seven dedicated staff members provide daily care, feeding, and love. We also have dogs thriving in foster homes, learning what it means to be part of a family.

Our incredible volunteers are the backbone of our work — they transport dogs to vet appointments, take them for walks, assist at spay/neuter clinics, help fundraise, offer sleepovers, and so much more. Without them, none of this would be possible.

As a non‑profit, we rely entirely on donations and fundraising to bring dogs off the streets and out of unsafe conditions, giving them the chance to live healthy, happy lives. We are always in need of foster homes and new volunteers — because every wagging tail deserves a future filled with love. We are also in need of flight angels. Flight angels are volunteers who accompany dogs travelling by plane from Mexico to their new families and fosters. It’s very easy and rewarding to become a flight angel!

"OMG...where do  I start!!! This is my sweet baby, Ginny. She came into our lives in April of 2024. She had been rescued from a vet in Puerto Vallarta after being hit by a car. The vet removed her leg and she went to Salty Dog Rescue to recover. She was flown to Calgary, Alberta in Oct 2023 and we were lucky enough to welcome her into our lives. Ginny had been a street dog prior to her rescue by Salty Dog and my only complaint is she is very selective in what she eats.. no strawberries for her!!

My feeling is that there is "just something about a Salty Dog Rescue" dog. Maybe it is the love and security they feel right away from Lynn Bailey and the group, maybe it is the comfort during recovery and rehab, maybe it is just that they finally have what they have been seeking. All I know is that I thank Salty Dog Rescue and the team every day for our beautiful girl."
